There has been a great response so far to Tom McTaggart's message about Colgate '69 Bonding. Keep you updates coming!

I keep up correspondence with Denis Cronin about family and prior doings with our high school group of friends.  A fall reunion, of sorts, is in the works.  I gave Chad Reid a call just to make sure he is tending the trout in his river that I can’t fish this year with him.

A surprise visit from Ray Wingenroth ....a story too long to tell...but it involves a discussion at our 50th about trout and salmon fishing.  He arrived at my house on his way to visit an uncle in NYS.  He brought me a wonderful gift of a framed photograph he took in Yosemite of the Merced River where I fished years ago!

Dave Helmen Keeps me in stiches with CA and Colgate sports trivia via group emails.

I hope you are well and this passes soon.

Thanks for taking on this effort. Over the past year, my wife and I had a lovely dinner with John Licciardi and his wife Claire at their Naples home in March. Have had active email communications with many members of our class. Lots of calls and emails with my roommate for three years Jim Weaver. Did get a wonderful visit with Jim and Molly at their cottage at Lake Chautauqua shortly after the reunion.

Stay healthy classmates.

John

Tom,

Last September the Vintage 13 (13ers from the 1960s) and our wives met at Colgate for several days to reune, sing and enjoy Colgate in September.  The '69ers participating included Bud Hedinger, Sam King and me.  A group of us took a boat tour of Lake Moraine, and all 17 of us serenaded President Casey at the Colgate Inn.  The next night we dined with and sang for Jane Pinchin and Jill Harsin.  One evening we sang with and to the then current Colgate 13, led by senior Trey Spadone, at the Student Union.  It was great to hear that the young guys still have it and can wow an audience.  They sure impressed us!

In February, Loretta and I visited Lynda and Bud Hedinger at their Florida home.  Our stay included a visit to New Smyrna Beach.  Bud continues as the morning radio talk show host for central Florida, and he is as good as -- or better than -- he ever was.

Then in mid-March the world as we knew it came to a screeching halt.

Best wishes all my fellow '69ers.

Bob

Dave Werner and I have met in person (pre-pandemic) and also spoken on the phone and via Zoom.

Thanks for doing this.

I have been in regular communication with Vic Herson and Barrett Katz.  Our conversations usually end up being focused on the erosion of our democracy under Donald Trump.  We feel that after a Colgate education it would be impossible for any of our classmates to succumb to the fear and hate that he spews every day.  We are hoping that our classmates not only vote this egomaniacal demigod out of office but you all contribute to democratic candidates and speak up at every chance you get.

Hi Tom (McTaggert): Hope you are doing well! Living a bit off the beaten path in Venice, FL, I have had regular phone, email and FaceBook/Zoom conversations/chats with ‘69ers, Orsi, Higgins, Clark, Possee, Lewine, Lassell, Brill, Swain, Molt, Dodds Frank, Wickeri, to name a few. Most of the dialog covered Colgate topics, Dr. Casey (there is very strong support for and admiration of him), the pandemic, Trump, Biden, and initial thoughts about the 55th Reunion.

Stay safe, best regards, Van

I’ve been in touch with a few classmates, in person, on the phone, or on Facebook. As the pandemic was escalating back in early March I visited Dick and Carolyn Johnson in Deerfield Beach, Florida. Then after a trip to the Everglades, I stopped for lunch with Dave and Judy Knauer on my way North and then West.

Since then I’ve been in phone contact with Dick Johnson and John Higgins…and, of course, Art Clark. I’m in touch with other classmates via email, some related to the website, but others as ‘catch-ups.’ I follow some classmates on Facebook, and I especially enjoy Jay Darrin’s photos from past travel, and recently his art walks.

It’s unlikely I’ll actually see any classmates soon since Bandon, Oregon isn’t really on the way to or from anywhere (though Californians and Washingtonians seem to be finding their way here).

Tom (McTaggart):

Great initiative.  Happy to participate.

2019 Highlights

Energized by the 50th reunion, I immersed myself in Colgate events and interactions with classmates. Many of the following have been reported by Milmoe, so I will abbreviate:

August 24 & 25 -- Cooperstown for Glimmerglass Opera with Nick & Margaret Brill and Peter & Deb Lewine; lunch with Woody Swain.

October 26 -- Worcester, MA, for Holy Cross Football, followed by cocktail reception with several classmates.

December 7 -- Cambridge, MA, for Harvard Hockey preceded by class dinner attended by John & Roberta Huntington, Nick & Margaret Brill, Mike Brown & Anne Gately, Dave Shantz, Frank & Claudia Gasparini, John & Mary Gibney '72, Bill & Anne Reitzell '74, and Don & Marty Wilmont '66. Colgate beat a ranked Harvard squad 4-3 in OT.  Best game I've ever seen Raiders play.

December 12 -- New Haven, CT, for Yale Rep. performance and dinner with Allan Dodds Frank & his wife, Lilian.

December 7 -- NYC for annual Christmas lunch with Frank Gasparini and his crew from Hamptons summer rentals.

2020 Highlights, in addition to frequent email & telephone contact with Art Clark, Jim Milmoe, Nick Brill, Greg Threatte, Mike Brown, Frank Gasparini, Peter Lewine, Woody Swain:

January 22 -- New Haven for Yale Hockey with Allan Frank & Lilian.

January 27 -- Yale Rep with Alan & Lilian.

July 25 -- Lunch with Art Clark & Lynn in Old Lyme as they wrapped up a week-long road trip.

August 20 -- Westport, MA, for backyard lunch hosted by Mike Brown and Anne Gately and attended by Jim Milmoe, Nick Brill, Dave Knauer and Gordon McLennan '70.

Summer fun, including frequent golf, with Allan Frank, who taught my 3-year-old-grandson, Malcolm, to fish, and my 10-year-old-grandson, Oscar, to pilot a Whaler on the Connecticut River.
